Post-systolic shortening: a functional window into ischemic memory?
نویسنده
چکیده
Myocardial post-systolic shortening is characterized by a large variability in both duration and magnitude. Although typically occurring in a setting of ischemic heart disease, this regionally asynchronous myocardial contraction is considered a normal finding in approximately one-third of myocardial segments in healthy subjects, as long as the magnitude is low and the systolic strain is preserved (2). Post-systolic contraction takes place during an energetically demanding

Is post-systolic shortening a reliable indicator of myocardial viability? An MR tagging and late-enhancement study.
PURPOSE In ischemic myocardium systolic strain is reduced and followed by a deformation after systole, the so-called post-systolic shortening. The presence of post systolic shortening is therefore considered a marker of viability even though its mechanism remains unclear. The hypothesis was tested whether post-systolic shortening might be a passive recoil phenomenon and therefore not uniquely a...

was assessed by measurements of segment length (SL), velocity of SL shortening and regional myocardial "work", i.e., pressure-length loops in normal, moderately, and severely ischemic zones. Regional intramyocardial electrograms were measured from the same sites along with regional myocardial blood flow as determined by the radioactive microsphere technique. Coronary occlusion resulted in grade...
متن کاملEffects of propranolol on regional myocardial function, electrograms, and blood flow in conscious dogs with myocardial ischemia.
The effects of coronary occlusion and of subsequent propranolol administration were examined in 18 conscious dogs. Overall left ventricular (LV) function was assessed by measurements of LV pressure and dP/dt, and regional myocardial function was assessed by measurements of segment length (SL), velocity of SL shortening and regional myocardial "work", i.e., pressure-length loops in normal, moder...

ABSTRACT Background and objectives: Stroke is one of the leading causes of death and long-term acquired disability. It is of great importance to seek ways for improving motor, sensory, and cognitive function after stroke and brain injury. In this regard, therapeutic exercise is the most commonly used method of rehabilitation that can significantly reduce the severity of functional ...
متن کاملRegional heterogeneity of function in nonischemic dilated cardiomyopathy.
OBJECTIVE To quantify regional three-dimensional (3D) motion and myocardial strain using magnetic resonance (MR) tissue tagging in patients with non-ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). METHODS MR grid tagged images were obtained in multiple short- and long-axis planes in thirteen DCM patients. Regional 3D displacements and strains were calculated with the aid of a finite element model. Fiv...
